WIC Breast Feeding
Services
Every human infant
is born expecting to be breast fed. Breast milk is the best source
of nutrition for an infant and WIC offers mothers breast feeding
education and support. Beginning prenatal, WIC offers a series
of 3 breast feeding classes designed to educate women about the
advantages of breast feeding for both herself and her infant.
The classes also provide information on how to actually breast
feed an infant.
When a women delivers her infant and begins to breast feed,
WIC offers support and guidance through the help of trained breast
feeding peer counselors. These are women who have breast fed
and completed a training course to equip them to offer support
to other women who are breast feeding.
Breast feeding mothers can remain on the WIC program for one
year after the birth of their infant. They also receive a larger
food package when they are breast feeding.
Breast feeding mothers are encouraged to call the WIC office
