Sewage Disposal
The purpose of this program is to reduce the possibility of health hazards created by malfunctioning or improperly constructed and maintained private sewage disposal systems. The program regulates all private sewage disposal systems, which have no surface discharge, and those, which treat a flow of 1,500 gallons per day or less with a surface discharge. Plans for the installation of private sewage disposal systems must be reviewed and approved prior to construction. The health department enforces the Illinois Private Sewage Disposal Code under authority of the Private Disposal Licensing Act.
